April 7, 2009
The Tar River WMU Annual Spring Meeting was held April 7, 2009 at the Tar River Baptist Association Center in Louisburg, NC. Handbooks, containing information for the coming year, was given to all attendees. Ephesus Baptist Church WMU hosted the event.
Kathy Freeman-Robles opened the meeting in prayer.
Roll call indicated there were 37 in attendance with 17 churches represented.
Mrs. Robles read a scripture passage from Matthew 22:34-40. This scripture was Jesus’ answer to the question “Which is the greatest commandment in the law?” Jesus said “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself”.
Mrs. Robles read some of the history of WMU and encouraged us to work together in love as we make some changes to WMU this coming year.
Three items of business were discussed and voted upon. They are:
1) Name change from Tar River WMU to Women of Tar River. Kathy made the motion and Debra Woodlief seconded the motion. The motion passed with 28 Yes and 0 No.
2) All budget and financial aspects of Women of Tar River be placed under Tar River Baptist Association as recommended in the recent audit. Elaine made the motion and Susan Bailey seconded the motion. The motion passed with 24 Yes and 0 No.

Kathy Freeman-Robles volunteered to serve as Director until the new church year or until the Tar River Association’s Nominating Committee is ready to fill these three positions. Elaine Lewis agreed to act as treasurer until the change is complete.
